Hot dish is meant to feed a lot of people so all the recipes are a problem for a household of two. The best solution is to portion it out to freezer containers, freeze, and then have reheat meals over the course of several weeks. A hot dish recipe this small is an anomaly in the annals of Midwest US culinary history.
It’s not just what you bring to a potluck, you have consider how much you’ll be bringing home, too. It’s not always straightforward, it does take planning.
Hot Dish vs. Casserole – Is there a difference except in which part of the country it’s made? IMHO…very little to nothing. My “West Coast” casseroles contain lots of stuff I would never have used if the recipe didn’t call for it.
The only casserole I make from scratch is Lasagna and even that has contained bottled sauce at times.
I was puzzled about the “in beach” reference. I Googled it and found that there is a Beach, North Dakota! It turns out that it’s named for a person named Beach, not that it HAS a beach! :) I always find the name Beach interesting because one branch of my father’s family is surnamed Beach. Since my family had always indicated that I have German heritage on both sides and Beach doesn’t sound German, I pursued researching that a little when I had some time on my hands. It turns out that that family was not originally named Beach, but Bitsch. You can imagine why they changed it on immigrating to the U.S., right?? :)

A second day is OK but five days eating the same casserole. No thank you no matter how good it is.

I ❤️ Dan’s comment/way he’s responding in panel two.

With a diminished sense of taste and smell, I can eat just about anything. Just don’t ask me to give you the details because I can’t detect them.

I don’t mind eating my own cooking mistakes. But then I consider it fixed by adding a lot of black pepper to even the worst outcomes.

I have 3 different sized casserole dishes. I try to make things fit in the smallest one all the time. Sometimes I fail at that.
