They are SO DARNED CUTE! As long as they’re not pooping in my back yard, that is. Little Finger, of course, being a cartoon raccoon, doesn’t need to use the facilities…
I was showing my home town, Vancouver, BC, to a friend visiting from Norway. We were driving around Stanley Park at night. The lights around the Lost lagoon and all are pretty. We saw a racoon family by the side of the road and stopped to watch them. My friend had never seen a racoon before. They’re so cute with their little hands.
Cute, clever and informative! Thanks! However, please keep the grapes & tomato thieves out of my garden and I’ll resist spraying them with some obnoxious liquid. Deal?
I believe we’re talking President Calvin Coolidge. The Raccoon in question was named Rebecca. If memory serves, he had a few other unconventional pets, but the types escape me now. The Raccoon was his favorite.
Looks like someone else makes a good sandwich, too. Little Finger is certainly enjoying it.
How could anyone think of harming Rebecca! She’s quite the looker. Little Finger is adorable, too.
I am still feeling so guilty about killing a wasp in my home yesterday. I was shocked and not thinking. I could have saved it and gotten it out safely, I’m sure. I feel so mean.
I have never seen a raccoon in real life, but I think they are amazing animals.
I notice, too, how the color pink keeps showing up. I love pink, my favorite color.
Not to get too far off the subject, but there’s another Calvin Coolidge story I’ve always liked. Coolidge, who was known as Silent Cal, once encountered a woman who came up to him and said, “I bet my friend that I could get you to say three words to me.” Coolidge’s response? “You lose.”
CFC Fair in 2020 before the COVID outbreak was a Roaring ’20s theme. I took my stuffed raccoon. People were astounded that there was a pet raccoon at the White House. There are pictures in one of the walkways between the East Wing and House of Rebecca.
In Norfolk we had a few raccoons who visited our yard. Little Girl Kitty, who liked powdered donuts for dessert. Mark Spitz, and the boys, who liked to swim and wash in the wading pool, and a silent big one whom my husband mistook for one of the cats and tried to pick up. The raccoon carefully backed away. We had a few cute possums too. Polly, Paulie, and Pocket Junior.

“Rebecca” was given to President Calvin Coolidge to be served for dinner, but the family fell in love with her and kept her as a pet.

I’m glad I discovered this strip. Thank you Ms. Beiman.
Raccoons are intelligent animals with a high degree of front paw dexterity. They are wild animals though and should be left well enough alone.

Good for her. Weird to think someone eats raccoons.

One of the few good things Coolidge did.
