Just the combo of the first two ingredients, never mind the orange abomination masquerading as cheese, had me gagging too Dan. I do hope it doesn’t end up topped with canned onion rings too. Actually, this would be a good one to take to pot lucks to ensure never being asked to contribute again.
My mother was always experimenting with casserole (er, hot dish, but we didn’t call them that in Seattle) recipes. She and dad both worked, it was easy to put them together and have the kids stick them in the oven to be ready when mom and dad got home. Some recipes worked, some didn’t, but we had to try them!
The amount of time Amanda has spent on mentioning tater top hot dishes has made me want to try one. It should be a welcome change from the over-spiced cajun food that prevails in SW Louisiana.
I like Amanda’s courage to try different “Hot Dishes” (I still call them casseroles), but to each his/her own..Me, I’d be tagging along with Dan to the PB&J cupboard.
No hot dish until it gets cold. My mother made casseroles/hot dishes for us to put in the oven to be ready when she got home. Some were good. Some were not. All had to be eaten. I learned to cook as early as I could. Tonight it’s grilled salmon steaks, summer veggies, wild & brown rice medley. And an extra steak (boned) for the kittehs. Big batch of chili started for tomorrow’s double header watch party with grilled chooks (now marinating) & brats (got the beer to soak/marinate the brats overnight) with corn on the cob, salad and veg. Others will be bringing the beef. Go Leos, go Riders.
Guys, it’s actually really good. You can find the recipe at my friend’s blog – http://www.theaudaciouscook.com/2011/08/yum-yum-hotdish.html <——— This is the hotdish I originally tried to find online and the internet gave me the canned spaghetti/soy sauce recipe, which was good, but not the one of which my aunt spoke.

Don’t run, Dan! That combo could taste good! I tried cheddar powder covered, caramel popcorn! A combo that is oddly, good!

Since you have used your small dish (you have, haven’t you?) – no harm done.
@Dan Try it once. If you don’t like it then – OK; but please try to keep your palate open-minded,

Was switching in and out of all caps a conscious decision? It’s slowing me down and spoiling the joke.
