I graduated with honors from college but throughout my early career only having the degree mattered, I could have gotten C’s and D’s and it wouldn’t have mattered (except to me). I did get my masters degree later and that mattered more.
I was at a graduation ceremony where George W. Bush gave a speech in which he said, “To all of the A students: congratulations! To all of the C students: you, too, can become President of the United States!” He’d make ol’ Eli Walden proud.
Speaking of campus statues, this was my favorite inscription on one: “Knowledge is good.” —Emil Faber, founder of the fictional Faber College, from the film Animal House
Tailor-made for Jeff, the slacker’s slacker, in the fine tradition of Zonker Harris, who eventually found his niche with his weed business, conflicting the heck out of slackers everywhere: should they shun him for finally working to make a living, or should they embrace his product? (Assuming they can find the motivation to get up off the couch).

The concept behind “gentleman’s C” was that “Gentleman” aka frats don’t study and that professors would give them a C as a courtesy.
