I’ve heard of bebop, a style of jazz developed in the early-to-mid-1940s in the United States. So now we have Beeperror, developed by Sluggo Smith in the early-to-mid-2020’s in the Nancy comic strip.
Hmm…. It appears that Sluggo is perhaps channeling the composer Philip Glass in his own efforts at music writing. Sluggo’s composition has a similar repetition of some notes that is a common theme in some of Glass’ best and most beautiful works.
In 1999, I traveled cross-country to Burning Man, and performed parts of Glass’s score for Koyaanisqatsi out on the playa, with my (then-new) Yamaha EX5 synthesizer.
Fortunately, we had no rain, and I had a wonderful time. I hope Sluggo can relax and find his groove, as others are.
Ha! Reminds me of the time I was at an intersection and two teenage girls were rhythmically hitting the crosswalk buttons to play the “wait” and “walk” audios like a song.
This is the last of a five-part series on the OJ Labor Day strips – September 5, 2022:
Although nothing will ever match the impact of the “Sluggo is Lit” strip, this one is even more inspired. Note the wordiness of this entry (as with all except for OJ’s first LD offering) works in well with the concept of a history for Nancy. It led me to ask some other questions. Is Fritzi’s aunt then also her Nancy’s great aunt? What weirdly-shaped family tree would be appropriate for the Ritz clan? Is Bathsheba still alive? (There was an OJ Nancy strip – before this one – which had Nancy talking to an older woman, who I assumed was a relative – was that her?) Is sending off a female Ritz to live with her unmarried aunt a weird family tradition that has lasted as long as life on Earth has? Maybe we’ll see another snapshot of that Nancy history on some future Labor Day!
Tomorrow – finally, this year’s Labor Day strip!!!
Holy gosh, I am in the middle of recording my own music using Digital Performer 11! This very problem just happened to me! (I was trying to drag a stereo audio file onto a mono audio track.)

Where, oh where are you right now?
Why did you leave me here all alone?
I searched the Web over, thought I found a solution
Hit the wrong button, and phhbbbt! you was gone!
(With apologies to the writers of “Hee Haw.”)
