    I haven’t seen any evidence of any of them having or using a caribiner so far. It looks like he has (they have) already made do without one.

    Maybe I’m not too in the know of mountain climbing, but I would think a snow covered mountain it would be scarce to find a native from the Caribbeans?

    It’s Mount Everest! There must be a ton of Carabiners lost in the snow. Just put your hand in the nearest snow bank and you will find one. But make sure you disconnect the frozen body.
