Everyone recognizes that things in this world are not the way that things should be. Christianity has the best explanation. We are meant for another world.
Before you try to escape, you should have a destination in mind, otherwise you will just keep trying to escape from one thing to the next and never find what you are looking for; since you do not know what it is.
“You are in prison. If you wish to get out of prison, the first thing you must do is realize that you are in prison. If you think you are free, you can’t escape.”
Today’s comic makes for some deep thoughts.Like for example when I am working I don’t have time to think about personal stuff, doesn’t that make work escape. Only is that even possible, are we maybe kidding ourselves when talking about free time when not working, since how are you free when not escaping.Okay, now I confused my self! Maybe tomorrows strip will bring answers, it could even set me free…
HAMLET: What have you, my good friends, deserved at the hands of fortune, that she sends you to prison hither?
GUILDENSTERN: Prison, my lord!
HAMLET: Denmark’s a prison.
ROSENCRANTZ: Then is the world one.
HAMLET: A goodly one; in which there are many confines, wards and dungeons, Denmark being one o’ the worst.
ROSENCRANTZ: We think not so, my lord.
HAMLET: Why, then, ’tis none to you; for there is nothing either good or bad, but thinking makes it so: to me it is a prison.
ROSENCRANTZ: Why then, your ambition makes it one; ’tis too narrow for your mind.
HAMLET: O God, I could be bounded in a nut shell and count myself a king of infinite space, were it not that I have bad dreams.
GUILDENSTERN: Which dreams indeed are ambition, for the very substance of the ambitious is merely the shadow of a dream.
HAMLET: A dream itself is but a shadow.
ROSENCRANTZ: Truly, and I hold ambition of so airy and light a quality that it is but a shadow’s shadow.
HAMLET: Then are our beggars bodies, and our monarchs and outstretched heroes the beggars’ shadows. Shall we to the court? for, by my fay, I cannot reason.
Comic strips are a form of social commentary. Stephan Pastis often gives us more to think about, on a deeper level, than some other comic strip creators do.
Alcatraz supposedly had really good food and it was all-you-can-eat. That was a disciplinary method. If you were punished, you lost dining room privileges, and were stuck with bread & water instead.

That makes prison an escape from reality. Except… in California, the prison fare is “Heart Smart”. Gaaaah! (Tip of the hat to Don Martin).
