Of course, production of books — one physical book per novel — also consumes tons of resources and energy. I have never seen a comparison in the production of, say, a hundred novels verses a hundred e-books.
A fact nonetheless. Electric cars allegedly save the environment but their batteries are made of pollutants built with the efforts of slave child labor. Everything has a price……

Maybe we should go back to markings on mud? Readable when dried? I’m sure some “mud hugger” would find something bad about that, too.
