And that’s just the first bit of ‘fun’. Wait until you see all the logos just waiting to gobble your storage.

Will the laptop work? Did it come with a power cord? Is there a mouse in the box? Is there actually a laptop in the box? Until it’s opened can the computer be viewed as both working and nonworking? Existing and not existing? Can they call it Schrödinger’s Computer (Catputer)?

This reminds me of the time when electronics like my Discman came not in cardboard boxes but in completely sealed hard plastic, what may have been called ‘blister packs’, and a knife or my scissors weren’t sharp enough to cut them open!

I had to go borrow my neighbor’s carpet knife and still it required such force that my finger slipped and I got a quarter inch cut on my finger!

After owning my new laptop for about 8 months, I found out a new feature. My screen was partially blocked when on Zoom. Took it in to a local squad of technicians, and they pointed out the laptop has a slider designed to physically block the lens. He slid it the other way, problem solved. I didn’t even have to pay. He said, “No charge for ID10T issues.” Hey, wait a minute…

Perhaps you shouldn’t own a computer then, Ernie.

This reminds me of one time when we in the Computer Services Department got a new Computer (with a new style case), to be set up for someone. None of us could figure out how to open the PC’s Case! A handful of Computer Professionals scratching their heads over something as simple as that! ☺

Skil actually makes a power tool for that. Probably wasn’t originally meant for blister packs but that’s why my wife bought it for us. works really well. Search under “Skil cardboard cutter” – there are several models and brands out there.I know why the blister packs were originally ‘created’, but there should be a special place in hades for the inventor - I hate that packaging; I enjoy cutting it to shreds.

I’ll open the box just as soon as I get the hang of this DOS thing. C:\ what? Ctrl K K? Yeah, that makes sense.
