You used to be able to give “a whack on the side” to devices back in the day and that would work. These modern devices are far more delicate and whacking them will most likely result in you having to buy a new device.;/
There are hammers, then there are hammers. Caught the better half driving a steel stake with my plastic dead-blow hammer. Got to lock my toolbox better. Bought her a set of hammers; carpenter’s hammer, rubber mallet, ball-peen hammer, tack hammer, single-jack hammer, and a new dead blow hammer. Taught her how to use them.
Our Austin Marina was the worst automobile in the world. One cold morning when it wouldn’t start, I grabbed a fireplace log and whacked it hard. When I got back in, it started right up. When we sold it, the buyer asked how the roof got dented.
A really great hammer cartoon was in Shoe a number of years ago. The Panel showed Shoe poised over his computer with a big hammer/mallet in his hands and saying “Compute this!”.
Our electric company is on another source while ours is repaired, has been for a couple of months…it speeds our clocks up ten min/day! Drove everyone nuts thinking their kids/husbands were messing with them. Why they didn’t tell us, I don’t know!
I have a Palm Centro (which came out in 2007 and ended in 2009). It no longer works as cell phone – but it still works as a PDA and organizer. It syncs with Lotus Organizer – which does not seem to run after Windows XP, so all of my computers have a virtual Windows XP machine in them for me to be able to access same on the computer. ( I have an Android which I hate as my actual “phone” – it is the particular model phone liked the one before this one.)
I have found LO to be the BEST organizing software I have ever used and the Centro’s calendars and to dos are so much better than newer devices also.
We each had one of the Centros. I am still using mine and husband’s sits in reserve. However, the USB cord connection for my phone broke at the phone connection end some years ago – so I have been using the cord from husband’s Centro and now that is breaking also – I have to be VERY CAREFUL and also juggle the connection to get it to work. Luckily I have found that I can still buy a replacement cord for it If/when I need one.
Also driving a 1996 van – yeah, we – or at least I – don’t like change.

The problem is knowing where to whack it.

If that doesn’t work, get a bigger hammer.

Why not? It worked for one team of astronauts when their TV camera went on the fritz.

As a retired tool and die maker, we used to joke that when we couldn’t fix something we needed to get a bigger hammer.

Sometimes, just a wack with your fist did the trick. This was dubbed the “Sullivan Adjustment” after the famous boxer John L. Sullivan.

The billable skill was knowing ‘where’ to whack it.

We make things work long after they should.
