Why did the farmer mistakenly work extra hard to keep barley and wheat away from his prized ox?

The vet had recently diagnosed him with silly yak disease.

First out-loud laugh of the day. . .I’ll have to remember that response for the next time some idjit says, “But ________________ never killed anyone. . .”

My mother used to say that to me, too. She also suggested that I might find the nearby reform school a more appropriate residence. Comparing the two, chores about the house was the easier of the choices.

At age 9 I was wrangling a self-propelled open reel lawn mower around our yard in the middle of a Texas summer. I survived. Today some nosy neighbor would be calling CSP for inflicting child abuse on me. Sorry but kids are too soft today and overprotected.

The bad stuff we see happening to kids on TV? It has always been happening. It is just that we now have cable news to blast the same story from some small part of the country to the rest of the country 24 hours a day. Things aren’t really worse. We just know about more of them.
