The ones who hoist the “Don’t tread on me” Gadsden flag originally popularized during the Revolutionary War seem to be the ones most eager to tread on everyone else.
The ones today who most loudly give lip service to “LIBERTY” and warn that “Democrats are coming for your freedoms” while wrapping themselves in their flags — Stars and Stripes, Gadsden, KKKonfederate and even Nazi swastika flags at Trump rallies and while trying to overthrow elections — are the ones who want to take away liberty and freedom from everyone else.
They are the ones trying to micromanage every aspect of everyone else’s private lives, including private relationships (dictate who you can or can’t marry or even what behavior is allowed behind closed doors), private medical choices (reproductive choices such as abortion or contraception, medical or recreational marijuana, end of life choices, stem cell therapies, gender-identity care), tell us what books we or our children can have access to, or try to force PRIVATE religion into PUBLIC policy and religious rituals into public meetings or subsidize it with special tax advantages (socialized religion).
As the specter of Nazism in Germany and Fascism in Italy and Spain rose over Europe, Sinclair Lewis famously warned in 1935: “When fascism comes to America it will be carrying the Bible and wrapped in the flag.”
So, how many times during their YEARS LONG Prison Sentences will those “Proud Gurlz”, and “Oafcreepers” and “Qballs” get to feel SOMEONE ELSE “Treading on them” during the night???
But TFG will pay for their lawyers, right?? Right?? Hello?? Anyone?? Bueller? Bueller? Bueller??
Flags are symbols. They mean what the people carrying them mean. If the Gadsden Flag is racist so is the American flag, when carried by those same people.
“Racist” is an overused term. Not as in there is no racism going on. There’s plenty of it. But unlike when Richard Pryor used to say that there was no name you could call a white man that he found insulting, calling someone a racist today cuts deep for many. I think today we need more terms than just racist. Off the top of my head we need terms for 1. racist lite, 2. racist, but ignorant of one’s racism, 3. racist, but in denial, 4. racist and proud, 5. genocidal maniac…………….which might work in and of itself. The problem with just having the one term, is that many people who make racist lite comments, instead of there being opportunities for dialogue with them, are pushed into a hard corner, when the same term is used for them that is also being used for genocidal maniacs. So, the next time you have a heated encounter with someone who is a little racist, instead of calling him/her a racist, consider, “racist lite” or “racist medium” or “someone with a slight racist tinge.” I think we can make the world a little better if we are more careful with our language. Remember, some of the people in this cartoon, MAY be salvageable. I mean the outlooks are bleak, but……
No, the flag does not represent racism, but those racist and fascist groups who have hijacked that flag are racist. Right wing-nuts have always tried to hijack Liberal principles and twist them to their own anti-American agenda.
Some further background on the Gadsden flag, from 2014: “A couple who shot dead two police officers and a third man in Las Vegas acted out of hatred for the police and the government, authorities have said. […] The couple left a swastika and a ’Don’t tread on me’ flag on the dead officers.” https://www DOT bbc DOT com/news/world-us-canada-27767197
Some people see Planned Parenthood as a place where women can receive counseling, inexpensive birth control, and judgment-free health care. Others see Planned Parenthood as a place where a procedure is done (or referred) that isn’t acceptable to many.
It would depend on who is in charge as to whether Planned Parenthood should be banned.
This is not a hypothetical, and that’s why it’s dangerous to give people the power to determine which groups are harmful, which religions are dangerous, which ideas are to be punished.

How right — how sadly prophetic — he was.

The latter day version of “Don’t tread on me” is, “What’s mine is mine and what’s yours is mine… so screw you.”

Those convicted and sentenced for their role in Jan. 6 are now crying and spewing repentance yet still supporting Traitor45.

Merely used by racists. Remember the swastika wasn’t a horrible symbol BEFORE the Nazis adopted it as their symbol.

The Gadson flag is not racist, but it is misused by racists. It’s really time to make it in rainbow color.
