This is such a beautiful strip today. The artwork and the sentiment are both heartwarming. My Dad will be 90 on October 1st. He’s such a big part of my day to day life. I’m lucky to have him and my my Mom for so long. ❤️
So sweet, thanks Carol Lay! my parents have been gone for over 25 years.I will find myself thinking my mom would have loved that or my dad would have loved this.
Someone loved isn’t really gone, as long as their memory lives on. My great-great-grandfather died before I was born. However, thanks to my grandmother’s stories, I carry memories about his life.
A friend who played in the Phil got us a tour backstage. I slipped out on the stage before the performance and sang a few lines from La Traviata, just so I could say I sang at the Hollywood Bowl…
When I go certain places or hear a sound or smell a fragrance, I’ll remember a time with my wife or a parent, and feel they’re still with me. A lovely story today, Carol.
My father passed away (at the far too early age of 73) 30 years ago next month, but I perpetuate his memory every time I make a pedantic observation or an atrocious pun.
My father gave me Beethoven and The Mighty Five. My grandmother gave me Glenn Miller and Bennie Goodman and my uncle gave me Charlie Parker, Miles, Antonio Carlos Jobim and Stan Getz.
My father died a month and a half ago. I’m still at the stage where I for a moment think I should make my daily phone call to him, or something makes me think I should talk with him about this, until I remember.

The music excerpt is “Jupiter” from The Planets by Gustav Holst, if anyone was wondering.

Dads are like that. Especially the classic ones.
