Talking to your pets is really NOT a sign of mental illness. On the other hand, listening to your pets is not such a great idea. :)
My cat Colette has, in the last year, become a lot more “chatty”. Her chatting doesn’t mean much but I’m sure she feels the same way about mine.
When I tell her something like, “I’m going back to the house now.”, it merely alerts her that something different is about to happen. She pays attention for a few moments, sees me heading back toward the house and decides whether she wants to come with me. 90% of the time, she decides to come with me in her own good time . :)
