You acted a tad too desperate, Elly. That’s why you feel small. That place sucked. You are other jobs that are better suited for you, where you will feel good about yourself and the people you work with.
Ellie should not even consider working with or for such jerks. After her abhorrent reception by both the “receptionist” and “boss” she should have just gotten up and said “No thank you” and walked out.
And they never do. When I interviewed applicants for a position, I told every one of them I would call one way or the other, and I did. I called them personally, not ask an executive assistant to do it. That is a cop-out. The least you can do for someone who took the time and effort to apply for the position is to let them know if they did or did not move on to the second round of interviews.
This is one of the most depressing and unfunny comics page today I have seen! I just wonder how Lynn Johnston actually managed to sell this to the Funny Pages manager!
Unfortunately it’s an all too common experience.Everybody who’s ever gone job hunting has been through this at least once, and most likely multiple times.
I can only recall one prospective employer who bothered calling me after an interview to say I was not getting the job. Once I got a generic form email, another time I received a letter in the mail (that was weird), and on two or three occasions I reached out to them and was told no. Most of the time they just ignored me and let me draw my own conclusions from that. Since they also hardly ever said “We’ll make our decision by the Nth of the month,” it became possible to delude myself into thinking I was still in the running long after the decision had been made. Those were the ones that really hurt.
Companies who treat others like how Elly was treated are soon headed for bankruptcy court. But how about when a government does the same thing? The USSR was known for long lines of miserable people trying to get bread, shoes, or toilet paper. It was also known for bureaucrats who could care less about the populace and an elite that lived in style when the rest of the country was living little better than their great-grandparents.

Not to worry, Elly. You can do better than that.

When did the response to “Thank you” become “No problem” instead of “You’re Welcome”?

As I’ve gotten older “customer service” has become much more important. I’ll report it when it’s appropriate.

What is Philpott’s? Not the same as what Elly’s brother uses to relieve himself: Phil’s Pott!

Probably just as well. With attitude like theirs, Philpott’s will be in Chapter 11 in short order.

This is why stores go in the dumpster so soon. The employees trying to run them are idiots that think they are God’s gift to business.

If they treat you that way at an interview, just think how bad it will be as an employee

Judging from the receptionist and Mr. Curtley’s personality, this is NOT a place Elle would be happy or appreciated.
