SPOILER ALERT: I’m reminded of a later arc where she and John hire a college-age girl to “baby-sit” Liz and April (Liz was 15 and April was 5) when they went out for the evening. Well, the girls woke in the middle of the night to find their “baby-sitter” having sex with her boyfriend. But that was “cooled off” when Liz turned the fire extinguisher on them!!
I had the opposite problem. When I was a teenager I shared a room with my grandmother. One of my best friends was a guy named Chris. We “dated” at 13 – he was my first date – but discovered that we were really more like siblings. He’d come over to do homework & we’d go up in my room. My mom was cool with it – she knew our relationship – but Memere went ballistic. We had to have the door WIDE open and she’d constantly come up to “get something”. Literally, all we were doing were listening to music, talking, and, yes, doing homework! (Side note: his girlfriend at the time, later wife, is one of my favorite people in the world & I was so happy for them as a couple. Sadly, he died of Covid in 2021.)
And then Ellie remembered her teen years. Cookies will be done in about 10 minutes, do you need any refills on that soda, my look at the time and it’s a school night.
John comes home with his hair messed up and his tie undone, and his collar unbuttoned and his eyes crooked on his head, and you are worried about Anthony and Elizabeth?

Ignore the pretty words that come out of her mouth, they’re just for show and bear no relationship to reality
Believe what she actually does

If they were making out, they could hear her coming down the stairs.

I suppose all you need to do is provide an interruption every 15 minutes or so and all should be well.

There is a French proverb, which translated means: “Nobody looks under a bed unless he himself has hidden there.”

No, no, no. Not popcorn. Chocolate chip cookies and milk are what you have for study sessions.

Keep up the used-car-dealer smile, Cru-Elly. It’ll make it easier for Liz to knock your teeth out!

Anything else I can get you kids? Cold soda? Pizza? A plexiglass shield?

This is very insensitive. People with braces can’t have popcorn!
