Interestingly, the height of the chef’s hat denotes the position one has in the kitchen. The higher, the more recipes the chef can prepare. So Woodstock is the chief chef.
People, Americans in particular, like to think of themselves as totally independent. To admit that we are even inter-dependent is a sign of weakness.
My church runs a food pantry each Monday. The only requirement is that you sign in. A first name will do and you give us the number of people for whom you are picking up food. No other questions are asked. This is the only paperwork we have and it is for purposes of applying for grants.
Many people are apologetic for coming in. Some tell us, “But we don’t belong to your church.” or “But I have a job (and 5 children).” We tell them, “If you have a stomach, you qualify.”
Then there are some who come back when they are “on their feet” again and make a donation. Sometimes it’s only a can or two of food. It’s all they can afford but they feel compelled to give back.
It is when I see people like this, that I have faith in humanity. They don’t make the headlines. They don’t throw fists in the halls of Congress or make anonymous threats to other people or groups. Still I like to think that there are more of them than there are of the newsmakers.
I don’t pay any attention to the expert “They” people anymore. I just fed the ducks a loaf of bread and they left a large tip on my dock. Thanks, my fine feathered friends!

It’s a slippery slope from bread crumbs, to bread lines

Now they don’t want us to give ducks and other birds bread. After centuries, it’s now somehow bad for them.

By eating those crumbs, he is supporting the baker’s union.

At first I couldn’t figure out why Woodstock was wearing a chef’s hat…while standing on Charlie Brown’s pitcher’s mound…

I wonder if Woodstock would feel the same way about a birdfeeder?

How do birds obtain welfare?
ladykat about 1 year ago
I threw some stale cookies in the garbage. In retrospect, I should have broken them and tossed them out for the birds and the squirrels.

Give a bird breadcrumbs and he’ll eat for a day, teach a bird how to make breadcrumbs and he’ll eat for life

It’s payment for the birds singing and eating bugs, keeping them away from our houses and food. Eat up in good conscience, Woodstock.

ELSIE: Consider the lilies?
BRIAN: Uh, well, the birds, then.
EDDIE: What birds?
BRIAN: Any birds.
EDDIE: Why?
BRIAN: Well, have they got jobs?
ARTHUR: Who?
BRIAN: The birds.
EDDIE: Have the birds got jobs?!
FRANK: What’s the matter with him?
ARTHUR: He says the birds are scrounging.
