Besides the pulp magazine where it started, there was a long running radio show, and a movie in 1994 with Alec Baldwin.

This made me laugh out loud, in part because I know a lot of people who would not get it. I’m not old enough to remember the radio program, but my father was a fan when he was young.

“What evil lurks in the hearts of men? Only The Shadow knows.”

Lamont Cranston is The Shadow, who has the power to cloud men’s minds.

(I had a girlfriend I called The Shadow – for the same reason.)

I seem to remember that this same gag happend a few times.
