The event described in the first 2 panels happens more often that one might think. Two people approaching a process on their own, might accidently meet and exchange ideas that benefit both. The rest of us receive the benefits.
The final panel suggests that, while Caulfield is likely to achieve a Nobel on his own, he might benefit from support associating with Frazz, whose occasional homilies provide a wider view.
An interesting one is the Nobel prize in chemistry in 1918, awarded to Fritz Haber. He got it for “for the synthesis of ammonia from its elements”, which facilitated the manufacture of fertilizer. Oh and explosives. Probably extended WW1 by two years. On the other hand, this invention has helped feed billions of people. I expect the primary motivation was for explosives.
In what field? He doesn’t seem a science guy so Lit or Peace maybe. Some parents choose to socialize the kid with those their age when he could obviously do college work. So he seems to socialize mostly with the adults.

After Bob Dylan won a Nobel Prize for Literature, I was fond of telling people that the Nobel Prize for Chemistry was just awarded to Keith Richards.

The story is significant rationale for workers to return to the office for those important ad hoc communications.

You know, I bet Caulfield would like the movie “3 Idiots,” in which a brilliant engineer runs circles around his stodgy professor.

What type of school has the JANITOR maintaining the copiers?

I think it’s ironic that mRNA therapy research should start near the copier.
