I had never noticed before how close the spelling is between ‘dinner’ and ‘disaster.’

Nope; the rule is whoever cooks – usually me – cleans up the mess.

If it’s reasonably eatable, she will clean it up. As long as he agrees to do the same when she cooks.

I do like to cook. My late wife and I had an agreement. When she cooked, I’d clean up. When I cooked, I’d still clean up. This was my choice. Whenever she cooked, she cleaned as she went, and there was very little for me to do, but when I cook, no matter how hard I try, the kitchen is a mess. I do miss cleaning up after her, even if it was to just wash a pan or two.
