I have/had two older brothers, and the older was shorter by about a foot. In their teens he was so sensitive about the height difference that when someone wanted a photo of them, he’d ask to pose on the doorsteps where he could stand on the higher step and equalize their heights. Since that was in the era when men still wore hats, he bought himself a Homburg hat and stuck a pheasant feather in the brim to make himself look taller. So what did the younger brother do but buy his own Homburg, complete with pheasant feather.

I’m that many years old. When our city finally got cable, early 80s I was a stay at home dad and spent most of my tv watching time switching between MTV and the golf matches.

So if he was invited to the Crosby, that would make him either a Hollywood celebrity or a golf pro. Maybe he is both!

This Christmas morning, after Hubby opened a gift of a new flannel shirt, I confronted him. While wrapping the new shirt, I found the one I gave him last Christmas, still in its box among the Christmas wrapping stash. He lifted up his arms and showed me his elbows—treadbare but not worn through— “I’ll wear it when this one is worn out.” Well now— he might have a lifetime stock in shirts and my last best option for a Christmas gift is gone. He has never worn hats.

Why that doggie care about clothes. Most us just grows lots of fur.
