“… At a time when women were gaining independence from their traditional roles as wives and mothers and birthrates were dropping, Brown celebrated romance and marriage by depicting music making, an approved activity for courting couples…”

Another artist that’s so desperate for an original theme, that his idea is two flute players.

Madeline was rather disappointed. It was prom night and Harold’s request to “play my flute” was greatly misunderstood.

See? Isn’t blowing my flute much more fun than plucking your harp?

Ah, courtship. Playing the flute together….something else they won’t be doing together after so many years of marriage.

It was easier to teach her how to blow and finger his flute than to instruct her on the proper method of plucking and strumming her harp … and there were no strings attached!

    The Music Lesson

    Paste (including the quote marks)

"Category:1870 oil on canvas paintings" Wikimedia

(syntax supported by the Google, Bing, Yahoo, Ecosia, and Yandex search engines) in the browser address bar (or search for it using one of those search engines) and choose the first Category: found and once there find the text string Music, and click its link for info and links that point to more info about this roughly jumbo envelope size painting. Other versions has the strip coloration image.

Again, a larger strip image is shown by (Ctrl- or right-) clicking the image in Mr. Melcher’s MASTERPIECE #3209 (October 24, 2023) blog entry, accessible by the Check out the blog! box after the last comment, and using the dropdown menu (even larger, if you trim what’s after .png from the URL). I have added a comment there pointing to the blog entry with my comment and reply pointing to info about this artist I used to point to here. So far, 9 works by him have been used here (10 times total, including 1 repeat), the October 23, 2023, strip being the prior.
