I have always liked this solution: It’s a way to help Mike that’s reasonable, but get shim to budget. Trust me as a former college kid myself, while I wasn’t away from home, budgeting be hard. It still is.
College kids love care packages. Only problem is they always end up sharing with their roommates (the roommates see to that) so he’ll only get part of it.
Wow! Kraft Dinner, soup mix, and a green plaid lumberjack shirt to stay warm over the cold Canadian winter. Every college boy’s dream! Except in my day, some 40 years ago, we would have preferred a red plaid shirt to match the colour of the Canadian flag. Green, ehh!
Well, I don’t agree with sending him money every time he blows through it, but I do agree with sending him care packages.. if he doesn’t like the food in there, let him complain! At least it’s free! Boy needs to learn not to be so picky.
Elly: Did you beg for money in the 8-page letta to Rhetta? Have Rhetta send you money. Yeah, that’s right. Let’s see Rhetta take care of you the way I have since the day you entered this life.
My Mom always sent Care packages to me when I was away at school, college, and in the Army. These packages were eagerly awaited not only by me but also by all my buddies – especially, when the package contained goodies baked by my grandmother!
I liked sending care packages or grocery store gift cards – cause then I knew what the money was spent on. Would send gas cards before breaks so they would have no excuse to come home. :)
A commentary on today’s young men who grew up without a Father in the house. Mom’s love to spoil their boys, Dads love to teach them how to succeed in life.
I never got a care package from my parents the one year I was away in college before I got my draft notice! I used the money I saved to buy books and bus tickets to home. When I went home on Christmas break, I worked part time at the store I used to work at before.
The interesting part is that Elly, after telling Michael she was sending him nothing yesterday, was preparing to cave and send him a cheque today until John intervened.
Cost of shipping will be more than the value of the product. Cheaper to send a Safeway gift card. Then he can spend his grocery allowance on fun stuff and use the gift card for groceries.

Maybe Michael can sell the junk his mother sends him for his extra money.

Or he could work as a part-time grocery worker

Michael will have to stand in line for government cheese. Lawrence is in a better position. Canada gives welfare to gay people.

Lots & lots of ramen noodles in assorted flavours. Also, instant oatmeal. Yummy

I see he’s getting the Canadian staple, Kraft Dinner.

I specifically remember reading this strip during its original run. Man, that was a long time ago….

Just don’t make it a habit Ellie, there is kindness and then there is enabling.

This was the same John who said in the strip dated November 4th that Elly ought to put a check in her letter to Michael. Now he is saying not to.

I didn’t know that the box said Kraft Dinner, I thought that’s just what Canadians call Kraft macaroni and cheese.

So why do they call it “KD Kraft Dinner” in Canada? Is “Kraft Macaroni and Cheese” too “American” or something?
