Thank-you William Joseph “Phil” Phillips USN retired WWII POW in the Paciffic. Thank-you George “Skinny” Blackmon U.S. Army WWII fought in the Battle of Anzio. Thank-you Thomas Alve “Sonny” Phillips USN retired Vietnam vertan and all veterans.
I really miss not being able to march in the veterans day parade with the marching band. The band stopped marching when there weren’t enough trumpets playing. Dumb. But, now I couldn’t anyway as my osteoarthritis keeps me from walking well, much less marching well. Though not a veteran myself, I played and marched to honor my father, a vet of WWII, and all those in my family who served in Viet Nam and other countries.
Not room for all to serve in military but civilians should truly respect and honor those who do/did. VA is a disgrace for all veterans. And congress should be ashamed.
Thank you Chip for reminding us that freedom isn’t free and that those who paid the price deserve our thanks and gratitude. Good on Brutus for teaching that lesson to his son. Too bad Gladys didn’t join them.
Most Veterans are very proud to have served and actually enjoyed the time that we served in the Military and are very proud to be part of that brotherhood (sisterhood). And while we do like/appreciate the Veterans’ discounts, some of us shy away from the hoopla shown on this day. Sadly, there are Veterans who do not enjoy the Day because of the circumstances of their service and still suffer from their time in service. (Even among Veterans, we make a distinguishment between Combat and Non-Combat service even though all of us had that potential. I served during Viet Nam but was stationed in West Germany) I got a lot out of my service that helped make me what I ultimately became. I love being part of that brotherhood, am proud that I served and wouldn’t give up that period of my life for anything…….
My husband is a retired Master Chief Petty Officer and he’s missed the Navy every day he’s been retired. He’d go back in a heartbeat if they called him. Thank-you all for your service. Happy Veterans Day!
Audie Murphy not only served in WWII, he earned the military highest honor – The Congressional Medal of Honor. I saw his name on a tour of the Pentagon in WashDC many years ago.
