I can understand Hobby Lobby and similar stores bringing out the Christmas supplies starting in August. That gives those who make their own decorations and those for church bazaars time to make them before Thanksgiving. As for the pre-made decorations, it is much too early. I decorate a Wecome center and this year it is the first week in November. Well, at least that is one thing out of the way.
She’s right. In the states Thanksgiving is practically ignored as it falls between Halloween and Christmas. Maybe it’s partly because there isn’t as much decoration as with the other two days but it’s still a wonderful holiday. (The classic Thanksgiving dinner is the best meal of the year I think)
There’s two reasons as I see it for it happening. The first is that Thanksgiving is primarily a food holiday. The heavily shopped items are what you need for Thanksgiving dinner and with the exception of cooking utensils and the few traditional decorative items that barely fill one side of an aisle on the GM side. Why not put out Christmas items there? The second reason is people will buy Christmas decorations as soon as they’re put out. I bet it would be a top selling department if kept stocked all year. The only way you’ll stop it is if people stop buying them and that won’t happen. I was yelled at by one lady about how we were stocking decorations way too early and yet her cart was full of them.
She is correct, but I refuse to give up Thanksgiving and Macy’s parade. The parade may be an advertisement, but it is fun. Maybe not so much for the people creating it on Thanksgiving Day.
If I had the option of skipping a month, it would be January or February. At least November has Thanksgiving. Unless you work in government, you don’t get the day off for any of the “useless” January and February holidays.

Ain’t it the truth. I started seeing Christmas commercials in mid October. And this month is a lot worse, if that’s possible.

November isn’t great. I like Canadian Thanksgiving in October because the weather is nicer.
