Gil Thorp apparently fought in the U.S. Army Air Force against the Luftwaffe during World War II, which means that he’s some sort of ageless immortal, which in turn has a lot of implications for any number of Gil Thorp plots. Like his slo-mo ongoing divorce, for instance: sure, it’s painful, but it’s something he has to go through every few decades, before his current wife starts to notice that he looks exactly like he did the day they got married.
Before I go any further, I would like to say THANK YOU to all the Veterans out there. Without their sacrifices and dedication and willingness to put their lives on the line, our Freedoms are just pipe dreams. Please, where you can, do your part to thank a Veteran. Personally, I take 5 minutes out of my day to shake the hand of at least 1 Veteran but however you feel comfortable. But PLEASE DO IT. Our Veterans deserve it, they need it, and want it.
Looks like Gil will go to great lengths to try to escape his own strip. And speaking of great lengths, you don’t have to go to great lengths to read today’s Mopped Up Thorp.
Vito from Goshen just returned from Meemaw’s retirement home ( You’re Almost There ) and picked up a huge bet on VT to beat that “nasty man Thorp. I think he wants me dead.” She is doubling up having VT going undefeated!

Gil is a Korean War vet, right? I assume that’s where he learned how to fly.

Iceman Martinez dangerously close, seeking Ace status.

The way this strip is, I am firmly willing to believe Rex as a WWI (II?) ace pilot is yet another plot thread.

I am guessing a USMC Grumman F4F Wildcat squadron. Without tail numbers or flank designators a better provenance cannot be established.

Ageless, timeless, and no need for a closed cockpit. Cheers, Coach!

…In Flanders Fields…byJohn McCrea…
In Flanders fields the poppies blow
Between the crosses, row on row,
That mark our place; and in the sky.
The larks, still bravely singing, fly
Scarce heard amid the guns below.
We are the Dead. Short days ago.
We lived, felt dawn, saw sunset glow,
Loved and were loved, and now we lie,
In Flanders fields.
Take up our quarrel with the foe:
To you from failing hands we throw
The torch; be yours to hold it high
If ye break faith with us who die
We shall not sleep, though poppies grow
In Flanders fields.
