It would probably be better received – at least these days.
It was fun, though, as a young accountant several decades ago getting on a bus with a bunch of my colleagues and going around to different partner’s houses a caroling each year. We’d usually hit about four and there were always good snacks and great libation (not to mention the coolers full of libations on the busses ;)). Remember being tired of libation at the last house one year, so I jumped behind the bar and started slinging drinks for the others. Then I noticed the Johnnie Walker White Label, and decided one more wouldn’t hurt.
Between husband and myself we have lived in 6 different places over the decades – NO one has ever come caroling at any of them – nor do I think anyone does so other than perhaps in a downtown business area or a maybe a shopping mall – have seen the business area when there is an even going on, have not seen any in a mall.

Great idea though, saves you time to walk to all neighbors doors and saves the neighbors time to get up and open the door! ‘Tis the season to relax!

If one is going to carol then perhaps, O, Holy Night, or Silent Night, or Once in David’s Royal City, would be better choices.

I agree with Wally’s reaction…

Must not snow there. When I was a kid in Illinois, you did not leave the doors open any longer than necessary and no one went caroling.

Hardly lazy, he could just forget the whole thing altogether

No, not lazy. Just that unmotivated to deal with people (especially Steinbauer).

As one of the neighbors, I’d much rather get that text than an in-person interruption at the door!

Probably safer this way, you’re not sure kind of reception you’re gonna get. Plus, they can delete it if they aren’t interested.
