Very funny! The question, have you found everything you’re looking for, seems forced. If you do actually say no, I couldn’t find such and such, the look of panic that spreads across their face is a quick reminder it’s only a rhetorical question.
Because the self-checkout process is so obviously open to fraud, instead of cashiers, the stores hire more people for security and surveillance. Interactions with cashiers were generally neutral-to-friendly – not so with security.
In Texas, on a visit, I saw how Walmart had swallowed up all the custom in the local area. Going to the market (shopping at the Walmart) was a completely asocial experience. The shoppers did not talk to each other. Other people’s carts were simply obstacles. The self-checkout was a soulless exercise in consumerism.
It made mail order seem like a farmer’s market by comparison.
We tried self service. Customers said it would save time as they could do it themselves. Our employees spent all of their time doing it for them as the customer was unable or unwilling to do it themselves. So we went back to counter service. Now all they complain about is why don’t we have self service.xD
Self-checkout means you’re doing the checkout clerk’s job. Do they give you everything at employee discount, or do they time you, calculate how much the clerk would earn in that time, and deduct it?

I really dislike the self checkout. I’ll take a human any day.

So, the self checkout, hates customers as much as the customers hate the self checkout.

The stores I shop at don’t have self checkout. Problem solved. Spend your dollars wisely.

give me the self checkout anyday…too many checkers apparently don’t like their job…(but I can’t hardly blame them…I wouldn’t either!)
