I knew a guy who did the same thing, he wasn’t happy in summer of 2002. He knew how to ride the increase in the stock values but could never pull the trigger to sell when the values dropped.
Sometimes, even if you wisely invest in indexed funds, it just doesn’t make any difference and the market goes down. If you are diversified, the value eventually goes back up.
If you were heavily into investments because you were greedy, you were just screwed.
If she had actually invested in the NASDAQ index, say through QQQ, then it would have taken a drop but recovered and returned nicely. However, it sounds like she invested in individual stocks from the exchange.
