A long time ago, after my first wife and before my second wife I had a housemate who liked to pack a picnic dinner and go to a shopping centre/mall/etc. some time between Dec 20 and 24 and just eat and laugh at all the crazy people running around in their last second panic. I joined her every year and we had a blast. I tired it once or twice with my present wife but she thought I was making fun of the people for being idiots and it was not nice to do so in their presence. But she is just fine with not buying anything except food and fuel for the next week and sticking to the internet or local, small businesses for the next month. YMMV
