Some time ago, I was going into a grocery store when a highly attractive young woman came out pushing a cart. She was immaculately groomed and wearing very form flattering yoga pants and a tight top. As she was in the vestibule of the store, she was fumbling about with her cart and in her purse I saw something flutter to the floor behind her. As we passed, I picked up what turned out to be a 50 dollar bill. I turned and caught up with her and said, “Excuse me miss.”
Where upon she turned around and began berating me telling me she was tired of old men hitting on her and harassing her. I simply stood there as she vociferously excoriated me. A few shoppers had stopped to watch the festivities. When she wound down. I asked her, “Are you through?” “Yes!” she snapped. I handed her the $50 and told her, “You dropped this and I wanted to return it to you. I don’t know about you, but to me that’s a lot of money.” She took the bill, turned an interesting shade of purple and walked away. I said nothing else to her, though I thought of several unkind things to say to her.
“You didn’t answer me right away! You had to think about it first, didn’t you? If you really thought I was beautiful, you would’ve spoken right up! I know when I’ve been insulted! I know when I’ve been insulted!” – Lucy

Been there, done that. Granted, many years after this strip was printed, but it is a near-universal experience.

How ‘but this: You’re indeed pretty cute, but you have a temper of thousand hells, and your face will always be ruined because of that.

Short answers (e.g. “Yes”) to questions like this are ALWAYS the best.

Well, that certainly explains why later when Lucy poses the same question to CB he doesn’t answer her right away.
