Short, but sweet.

What’s the occasion?!

“I love a parade, the tramping of feet

I love every beat I hear of a drum

I love a parade, when I hear a band

I just want to stand and cheer as they come

That rat-a-tat-tat

The blare of a horn

That rat-a-tat-tat

A bright uniform

The sight of a drill will give me a thrill

I thrill at the skill of anything military

I love a parade, a handful of vets

A line of cadets or any brigade,

For, I love a parade!"

Well, that was short.

As kids my two siblings and I would dress up and put on little “parades.” We never understood why people didn’t stop and watch. Maybe it’s because there were only 3 of us, and because we lived in a neighbourhood where most people were elderly. And because we were all under aged 7.

When I was little, my siblings and I had parades inside the house, using pots and pans.

My oldest daughter was in her high school band and I went to her parade with her younger sister. I was so proud of her. She plays the flute and of course her sister picked up the flute in high school too. But wasn’t in a band.

When I was a young boy

No marching band?

Where’s the seventy-six trombones, not to mention the hundred & ten cornets right behind?
