That IS genius! My tree is one of those fake ones you don’t need to water. Also it’s small enough to sit at the end of my dining table. Still lights up good though.
I planted a bunch of evergreens and some died (hard for them to make a living in sand). When I burn my trash I throw the dead one’s on. They are gone in a flash!
This reminds me of the tree I built, once, long, long ago. It was just a pipe stuck in the ground with 6 notches at the top. Cords were run down from the notches to stakes in the ground. Wrapping around the “tree” was two strands of lights and lots of silver garlands. Even with all the decorations it still didn’t look like much in the day, but at night? Look out.
My favorite Xmas tree was a live Yaupon holly when I lived in Texas. Put it outside after the holidays, had berries by next Xmas. Eventually it got too big and then it made a welcome addition to the naturescaping in my yard.
My father’s idea of decorating a blue spruce was to put just enough strings of lights that didn’t trip a circuit breaker and spray the entire tree with artificial snow so there was not even one needle visible. Then plugged it in to deep fry the tree with the older, pre-LED lights. The whole effect was a white cone with twinkling colored lights. I don’t think he ever gave a thought to hanging ornaments. I wouldn’t be surprised if he threw out the whole thing when Christmas was over, lights and all! ;-p
Puts me in mind of the very large “tree” in the lobby of an office building I worked in NYC many years ago. It was a large metal frame loaded with very large ornaments. Only if you looked very closely at it would you see that there was no tree under it.

At least it didn’t mysteriously become greener after being decorated like Charlie Brown’s tree.

Why decorate a tree when the decorations can BE the tree, am I right?

Maybe they should go for one of those holographic Christmas trees.

Meanwhile, the tree salesman is laughing while he’s telling someone about how he duped some sap into buying the cheapest tree in the lot!

the world may never know… so long as they don’t see the previous comic page that led to the tree decorating part that is. :J

Next time, Jon, don’t get a tree that’s half-off, or else this happens.

My family has been using the same artificial tree for decades. Artificial is superior.
Side note: I love Odie’s expression in panel 4.

Is that an ornamental tree or ornaments decorated with a tree?

This feels like two daily strips combined into one Sunday strip.I like.

I wonder if Jon’s tree was UL (Uncle Lewis) approved? “At least it’s out of it’s misery!”

(senses an ending similar to a certain scene of a certain “A Charlie Brown Christmas” in this cartoon (involving its bottom panels))
