Do violent games encourage real violence, or do they provide an outlet to “get it out of your system?” There is probably more than just one variable in this equation.
When my kids were growing up, I used to have pretty much the same concern about violent video games that she has. One day, we visited the 45th Infantry Museum in Oklahoma City (with my dad, who was a 45th veteran), and I was shocked that my son could identify so many of the different kinds of weaponry that were used in WWII and Korea. I asked him how he knew so much, and he said from a WWII video game (I think “Medal of Honor” or “Call of Duty,” I’m not sure). He said the games have lots of historical facts. My opinion of video games changed that day.
Today my son is a developer (not games), is absolutely not the violent type, and is in fact something of a Bible scholar. So I worried about nothing.
No, just trying to encourage you to sneak around my back and play them at friend’s houses where you can also learn about alcohol and other drugs to abuse.
it is the amount of time that video games eat up, more than the violence itself. Hubby and I are ancient gamers and while the brain thinks it is out having a great adventure, the body is turning into a spud.
I grew up playing Nintendo games…and when I got a computer of my own, in my own house, I started playing Doom, Blood, and other “gory” games. When my son got old enough, I would sit him in my lap, and we’d play the games together…me controlling the keyboard and him the mouse, until he got big enough to play by himself. Now we play games like Sniper Elite 5, Ghost Recon, Warframe…he has his own computer now. But, I’m also proud that he took the time to get into TaeKwonDo, and became a black belt first degree…and still learning.

Seriously, not even Pac-Man is approved? He doesn’t kill the ghosts, they’re already dead!

Use it, don’t abuse it. Luann also has this sort of thing.

Peter, we need to talk about ‘how to avoid MAGG stuff’ and get away with it when Andi’s around…
