I completely understand Verne’s and RJ‘s panic. I lived the first half of my life before cell phones existed, but now that I’ve been using them for the past 35 years, I actually NEED mine (currently iPhone 14 Pro Max) within reach at all times. My son misplaces his at least twice a week, and has me call his number so he can locate it by the ring. if he can’t find it after a couple of tries, I let him take my phone so that he can walk around the house and out to the car while listening for the ringing. Those few minutes are almost unbearable for me.

I can live without my phone, but all these companies insist on a mobile number to text me.

People are shocked when I tell them I leave my phone inside the house when I work in the garden. I tell them that gardening is a full contact sport for me and I’d end up burying the phone somewhere if I had it on me.

The second time my future wife visited my house she brought a flip phone for me (2010). She was concerned that I might have a problem visiting her (55 miles) and be out of contact. And calling my landline was eating up her out of network minutes.

Out where I live saying that cell service is “spotty” is being overly generous. My cell phone only works through WiFi and my Internet (which is fibre optic.) I use it more as an MP3 player in my car or for navigation.

At first glance I thought that RJ said that their brains went out for a “job”. It’s shocking either way.

I haven’t “lost it”, I’m just not sure of its location at the moment.

Addiction is just the icing on this particular cake. Then there are all the people who have learned everything they know about life, the world past and present, human interactions and on and on from a phone. Bell must be spinning…

These comments show how, sadly, we’ve become addicted to technology, need it or not. Get Him an I-watch he can track his own phone with it.
