I suppose some communities still have town dumps. Our county has a huge commercial incinerator with modern pollution controls for burnable trash, which also produces steam for heating nearby buildings.
I accidentally dropped and shattered an empty wine bottle left over from Thanksgiving as I was taking it to be recycled. It was oddly satisfying. Except for all of the glass I had to clean up.
One of the things I love about WtB is the parents thinking like kids, embracing kid things as special and relishing that time. Kids today are forced into growing up so fast most of the time, at least that’s what it seems like.
Our trash pickup no longer recycles glass but there are sites with giant purple bins where you can dump your glass. For me, the inconvenience is outweighed by the satisfying sound of the glass bottles exploding in the bin.

They could shoot rats together. Bonding!
But oh man, at least eight of us juggling three plates each to “Too Many Dishes in the Air” and we all decided to just step back at the end. Glorious.

Better leave before the you know who of the household finds out about this plan. Or maybe she’d join in.

Def a “boy” activity; I hate the sound of breaking glass!

Wallace is so lucky: a great mom AND a great dad!

This is why boys are much better off having a dad/male role model in his life!

“….Well, sometimes we’d travel right down the Green River
To the abandoned old prison down by Airdrie Hill
Where the air smelled like snakes and we’d shoot with our pistols
But empty pop bottles was all we would kill.” Excerpt from ‘Paradise’ by John Prine, 1971
As usual, Mr. Prine nailed it.

Used to have a dumpsite behind our farm. Loved to go out and smash things. Good for the soul.

I’ve seen the sun rise from Mt Fuji, but never from a dump. Must put that on the bucket list.

You’d think Sterling would enjoy going to the dump to destroy things, given his destructive tendencies…

Can someone tell me what those things are sticking out of the lower left window pane in panel 3? They are not over the sink, so can’t be water taps.
