ONCE…in my brighter days I rolled my beatiful BLACK Ford 65 Galaxy w/white conv top. (red interior) Drunk as a skunk…Police found me down the road getting a band-aid on my wound. Polce gave me a ride to a bar to call my parents. Not a lie!
As I occasionally mention, I watch repeats of Last of the Summer Wine with Bill Owen in most episodes as the Andy Capp-like Compo Simmonite. Freeview Channel 20 is currently repeating Christmas specials. Yesterday, I watched two Christmas specials in which Norman Wisdom appeared as Billy Ingleton. The first was the 1993 Christmas special which was written around that new character. The second was the 1995 special in which Norman had just three scenes as Billy.
The 1995 Christmas special had a plot involving a horror movie called Circus of Horrors being filmed in Holmfirth and local characters joining the cast as extras. The first one we saw was a character dressed as a mummy. He later turned out to be Smiler. Norman Wisdom’s character first appeared wearing a red devil mask. Peter Sallis’s character Norman later joined the cast as a Yokel while Bill Owen’s Compo played a Hussar. In real life, Peter Sallis had previously played a supporting role in the Hammer movie Taste The Blood of Dracula. About an hour after watching Last of the Summer Wine, I watched a reshowing of Hammer’s The Revenge of Frankenstein. Lionel Jeffries – who would voice Fred Basset in the 1970s animated TV show – had a small part as a grave robber.
but then not the same ambiance, there will only have the sign that says you have the right to remain silent when the sign over the bar says Liquor in the Front and Poker in the Back.

You should go there, Officer. Then, it’ll be easy to arrest him when he starts another fight!

The spirit of Christmas was not exactly the spirit Andy was looking for.

The answer is always no if you don’t ask, and there’s a chance it’ll be yes if you do, so you should always ask.

Andy’s idea of Christmas cheer is to have some beer from someone too foolish and way too near.

Has anyone thought the reason Andy is in jail so often is that the food is better than his wife’s cooking?

Andy’s usual post-Christmas pub brawl is the reason the British named it Boxing Day.
