Because the true spirit of Christmas isn’t giving, but greed. People give presents to make others feel obligated to give something back. At least, that’s my experience.

One year, I gave my brother a $100 gift certificate from Best Buy, and he gave me a $100 gift certificate from Best Buy. We looked at each other and said, “This is stupid.” And stopped giving gifts.

It’s always appreciate these more wholesome and caring moments between the characters. It proves that the strip can be more than just satire and edginess.

My wife and I worked this out years ago. She gives me one bottle of Scotch, and I give her one. This year I wrapped hers to look like the presents on Mr. Shirley’s credenza in National Lampoon’s Christmas Vacation.

Rat gave something? Guess anything is possible today.

I told my wife that the grandkids get enough presents already, so we’ll just make 529 contributions. “OK”, and then she buys 5 more gifts for each kid.

A buddy at work and his wife decided they wouldn’t exchange presents one year. About 8:00 pm Christmas Eve she gave him his present. He had honored their agreement. Things got awkward.

Every year I say that I don’t need anything, that I don’t want any gifts, and yet each year I get a load of presents. I have everything I need. I have more than I need. Most things I have double. Sometimes three times. Yet people cannot get it inm their heads that their presence is enough and still show up with gifts. Why??

I usually give gifts that I’ve made myself. I find that most people appreciate my efforts. As well as my efforts to not bleed on my work when I stab my fingers with a sewing needle.
