Same thing happened to me years ago…actually twice within 20 minutes. (I ate the third sandwich instantly.) I’ve always had cats and never realized dogs could eat that fast!! I sure learned my lesson…especially when the dog is large enough to stand on his back legs and reach the counter top!!
My husband left two cheeseburgers on a coffee table to go get a drink and was upset when the dog inhaled em. Seriously, what did he think she was gonna do?? Guard them for him against the cats??
And That is why smaller dogs work out best. Easier to keep ‘em off the table! My GS and my dobie were both big enough to “help themselves” and had to be banished from the room during meals. My Yorkie can’t reach over the top of the coffee table.
