Makes me wonder. If there is life out there (or was), did A.I. doom them and take over as it will eventually doom us? Is artificial intelligence flying those UFOs we keep seeing?

No it won’t. Key word… ARTIFICIAL. A computer can only do what it’s program tells it to do.

Jobs will be lost and jobs will be gained, just like when we went from the Horse and Buggy to the Automobile.

Whatever it is it must be bad because I heard that the people that invented it said to be very careful with it . Now that is a comfortable feeling ?

Decades ago, someone said that artificial intelligence is the kind of thinking that computers can’t quite do yet. Once they can do it, it becomes pattern recognition or the Simplex method or whatever name is given to the specific thing they become able to do. (But said fancier.)

    Seems to be still appropriate.

It will definitely CHANGE the job market.

I remember people complaining about computers. “I don’t have time to learn this computer stuff; I have a job to do!”

I use AI. It is a good research assistant. However, it is often enough wrong and when it goes off the rails, it really screws up and sometimes makes stuff up.

The trick is how to set up the question to get the results you are looking for. The more factual information you can give it, the better your answer will be.

For example: you can ask it, ’What kinds of questions will I be asked on an interview?"

or “Here is a job description. What kinds of questions will I be asked about it on an interview?”

or “Here is a job description. What kinds of questions will a CTO ask me about it on an interview?”

On the other hand, if you can feed it “alternative facts” you can get it to generate very persuasive misinformation.

I have seen postings by computer scientists who fed AI conflicting information. The AI had a “mental breakdown” and came out with a babbling answer. Where is Captain Kirk when you need him? A couple of the original shows have Kirk talking a computer to death while boring the rest of us to death.

AI is useful but it still requires adult supervision.

Yep. It’ll solve the tight labor market alright. It will displace large numbers of people who might have been employed. The results of high unemployment are well known. Buckle up, Friends. The change is coming.

it should be called what it is, programmed random data management, it is not intelligence or even thinking, it is done by an inanimate object

Couple AI with mandatory increases in the minimum wage (CA will be $20/hr) and lots of jobs will be lost. Get used to ordering food at a touch screen and picking it up with no human contact

The tight labor market is a result of the Pandemic resulting in Boomers retiring in droves or dying and the new “norms” which deemphasize the family. Current trends show a slowing of population growth in developed nations.

One again the problem of a tight labor market is unintended consequences of political action, in this case payments for not working that are as good as working. Look at the consequences of $20 minimum wage in CA for certain jobs; now a lot of people have NO job.
