Those poor dogs were purposely breed to a shape that puts tremendous strain on their hips. My aunt and uncle had an old dachsund who had to pull himself around on a cart. Research before you get into an expensive mistake with inbred animals.
I’m trying to remember where I read it (maybe, Dennis the Menace), when someone described a Dachsund as “half a dog high, and a dog, and a half long.” :)
