Schulz didn’t seem to like adding personality to already established characters who had been “born” relatively bland: instead of abandoning Violet for being too colourless, he could have revealed a new side to her that would have gained her more appearances in the strip. I think that Violet would have worked well as a nemesis for Peppermint Patty. She looks down on children who are of a lower social class than herself (something which Lucy doesn’t do), and she appears to consider herself very refined, so I can imagine her attempting to make Peppermint Patty feel small about things like her sandals and Patty’s dad seldom being home (“My dad takes better care of me than your dad”, etc.) Of course, we all know how Peppermint Patty would react to Violet’s jibes – Violet would be a regular on the 6-o’-clock news :P This was not to be, though. After ceasing to be even a minor character in the late 60s, Violet had a long career as a background extra in the strip. (My favourite Violet appearance from these later years is July 26, 1983. You get to see what her opinion of all the male cast of Peanuts is xD)
Can the human characters understand Snoopy or not? I can buy Charlie Brown, Lucy and Linus being familiar enough with him to follow his non-verbal cues, but secondary characters like Violet, not so much. Then again, the non-verbal cues in the first two panels are far from subtle.
Violet doesn’t get in t he strip often t hese days, so maybe she’d better cozy up to “Star Doggie” and he might be able to get her a couple days work as an extra
If you have the chance the Shultz Museum in Santa Rosa California is well worth a visit. After you can go next door and ice skate in the rink or simply have a hot beverage and watch others glide about.

Wow. Since yesterday, “Sweetie” (Lucy’s) hair grew so fast she can now tie it up in a hair bun or chignon.

Violet does not play and will have none of Snoopy’s smooth talk. If he could talk.

Escapade on Ice with Snoopy providing the slapstick not to be confused with a hockey match with two inept teams.

Dancing shoes, though the distances divide us
There’s a paradise inside us we can’t lose
Me and you dance a pax de deux forever
And I pray you never shed your dancing shoes._

This strip has a lot of violence. I think I will tune over to Elmer Fudd duck hunting.
