Yes, another Christmas is over. It was a good one in our family and nobody missed the brother who chose not to come, including his son. We found out that John does not even know his granddaughter’s name! She’s 13 years old and he still doesn’t know her name? That shows how much he cares about the family! John and his son are barely on speaking terms. John really does not communicate with any of us. We’re okay with that. John told our brother, Jim, that he wasn’t coming for Christmas because Paul was not going to be there. He claimed he only came to see Paul. That’s odd, because Paul and John were not close (to be honest, John distances himself from everyone in the family). When we were kids, John loved beating Paul up. I don’t believe for one minute that Paul’s absence was the reason why John didn’t come.
Our brother, Paul, was missed, but even though he is no longer living, we did get Christmas gifts from him. He had purchased these things a long time ago. Paul’s son, Tyler came for Christmas, bringing along his wife, Alexandra and their son, 15 month old Alistair and Paul’s girlfriend, Carol. Carol gave me the neatest gift! It was a 2024 calendar with 12 pictures of Paul. Paul running races, Paul with his grandson, Paul with his cats, etc. I gave everybody in the family some of my fudge and divinity. Everybody pitched in helping with cooking and cleanup. It was a very good Christmas.
Sirens? So, Santa switched from his common means of transport to manatees to pull his sleigh? (Or did Rudolph received a reward for his achievements and is now called "Sir"rein-deer?)
Cats don’t steal, everything already belongs to them. I had a lovely early Christmas dinner with 18 of my neighbor’s family, first time they had all been together in ages. The 3 grown daughters have hired a professional photographer for a family portrait today up among the pines in the snow. We all brought food and most of us helped clean up at the local school’s community room. A few grumbles from the guys who wanted to watch some game on the non existent TV but they had their phones.
Okay….I’ve got a good Christmas Day story for you. I really overdid Christmas decorations, especially when you realize no one was here with me on Christmas Day. Heck…I’m 72 and living on my own…not of my own choice. Anyway, I love sitting outside and yesterday was no different. The lake across the street is frozen over, but because of the warm weather this past week AND the fact we have no snow, the Lake looked perfect for ice skating. Sunday, my neighbor told me the ice was safe so “What the heck?” I decide to go for it. Got my hockey skates out and grabbed a hockey stick and puck. I bet some of you can tell where this is going. Sat on a rock and got my skates on…..a little concerned about the ice, but oh well. I knew where I was skating was only three feet deep….which turned out to be fortunate for me. I was about 50’ from shore when the ice broke out from under me and I’m in the lake. Stupid me, at first I was more concerned about my iPhone than saving myself. I tried to head to shore after getting my hockey stick, but I could not get up on top of the ice so I just kept breaking a path. Eventually, the ice was thick enough that I could lay flat on top of it and, like a Walrus, flapped my arms and made it to the shore on top of the ice. I know….I must be a foolish old man, but that ice looked so good to skate on. I’m fine other than a contusion on my right upper thigh muscle.
I had a wonderful day with my family yesterday. My youngest great-granddaughter (1 1/2) discovered candy canes and rapidly became a glorious, sticky, happy mess!
Merry Christmas, I spent the whole day in bed with tummy issues [I’ll spare you the details; wasn’t pretty.] I was a “cat sandwich” between striped kitties Cobby and Stormy; they didn’t leave me all day. Hubby and my brother and his GF went to see “The Boys in the Boat” and a Chinese buffet meal without me—-which was fine. He even got a refund for my ticket. I got up around 5pm, not for long. Much better today.
Very funny. Reminds me of when Homer Simpson (outraged at the high price of Christmas trees) swiped a tree from someone’s yard. When asked why there was a birdhouse in it, he said it was an ornament. On another note, saw two varied thrushes, eight chickadees, a squirrel, and a wren while out walking today.

I think it’s best that we never know where he got it from.

Gotta admit that Chesney is (almost) the cutest kitty ever with his tail showing in the last panel. Kitty has chutzpah.

Sigh, Ches. Let’s just say he did it for Oliver and leave it at that!
