Everything that has ever happened has created what and who we are today. The more we understand the past, the more we understand the present, the better we can create the future.
My Grandmother told me “Learn anything anyone is willing to teach you. You never know when it will come in handy.” She was a very wise lady…I have passed on her wisdom to my kids, and my daughter is telling it to her sons. Grandma Mary would be so proud.
If you ask why is Putin like he is the answer is he is hanckering after the ‘good old days’ of the USSR. Why was the USSR like that… look up the Postdam conference.
Some puzzles are easier with a knowledge of algebra. I’ve used trig and geometry at various points in my life/career/kid raising. But that advanced math? I’ve never needed calc, linear algebra, differential equations? After my math minor it’s just been brain filler.
Understanding Potsdam helps one understand the geographic make up in Europe and some of the current problems and alliances there today. So, yes, I have used it.
I so miss the bar trivia, that went under with the pandemic. It was in bars across the USA,and parts of Canada. The questions were Jeopardy level, but multiple choice. You could play solo, or as a team, with 5 or more. After each set they showed the high scores, at all the bars playing, and individual players.

Wise to be honest with your teens. They’ll catch you in a lie in a New York minute.

Really good history teaching would explain how Potsdam and other events are related to modern events like Ukraine and Palestine.

The most important thing students can learn in school is how to actually think.

Have I used Shakespeare in my life? Occasionally in crossword puzzles. (But I use calculus every day.)

The Holodomor has a greater effect on my life then Potsdam. YMMV.

I have read multiple books, both fiction and nonfiction, which mention the Potsdam Conference. It was good to know what they were talking about.
