How’s this for an idea? Outlaw “political campaigns”.
Make elections more like HOA board selections: candidates are allowed ONE mailing to every voter, with a statement of “Why you should vote for me” in 100 words or less.
No TV ads. No billboards. No radio ads. No biased, confrontational “debates”.
Deep Pockets would not come into play. Non-millionaires could run without becoming beholden to special interest groups.
The candidate would (probably) not be wasting his/her 100 words on attacking others . . . they’d have to promote their own platforms.
No “3rd party” promotions would be legal. It would be a nice, peaceful, time for people to read and compare the candidates’ policy positions and make their choice without the rancor and bickering of the current system.
I know — I’m dreaming. But think how such an approach could open up the system to more viable candidates.
Actually, we Democrats, along with other normal people, are very happy with President Biden and comfortable in re-electing him and his cabinet for a second term. Republicans still have time to offer something about themselves for voters to consider them an alternative to the Democrats.
Of course, we all know that will never, ever happen.
Gutfeld: Where do we go from here? Twenty seconds to defend the indefensible.
Tarlov: We go right back to 1600 Pennsylvania Avenue because we do have good economic news, but the media doesn’t want to cover it. He is correct. He shouldn’t just say you’re looking at the wrong thing. They need to communicate this better.
But we got revised third quarter GDP growth up to 4.9 percent. Unheard of. Consumer confidence went up 14 percent. Largest jump in a decade. Inflation is running at an annualized rate below Powell’s target, which is why he’s talking about a rate cut. Personal income is up. Grocery and energy prices down last month.
In the Quinnipiac poll – this part of it is really important – they did a forward-looking question, what do you think 2024 is going to be like? 48 percent said the economy is going to be better, and 62 percent think that they are going to be better off in the next year. When is the election? November 2024. Democrats, make your case. There is a case to be made.
Trumps term – No wars, middle east peace, destroyed the isis caliphate, a strong American economy, virtually no inflation, soaring 401k’s, stock market profits, low gas prices, secure oil reserve, lower taxes, strong U.S. dollar, secure U.S. border, remain in Mexico, low crime, permanent funding for HBC’s, pulled out of Iran nuclear deal, and didn’t send them a plane load of cash, $35 mil grants for victims of human trafficking, four Presidential Executive orders to lower prescription prices, rebuilt U.S. military with $2.2 trillion defense spending, and donated his Presidential salary.

I don’t think the Giants’ players would take advice from the Cowboys’ coach. Why should any Dem take advice from any right wingnut?

Exchange Joe Biden for someone who’ll accomplish something politically for America and American Workers.
