Westcott Reservoir was the place to go in Syracuse. Looking down from the top of the hill you saw West Genesse Street with all its traffic. No way could you reach it because of a gully at the bottom of the hill but it sure was intimidating.

Sledding was great on the property on the NW corner of State Line and 50 Hiway in the early ’50’s.

Back in the late 50’s and early 60’s we used to drag our sleds about 1.7 miles to Hoyt park in Saginaw, MI. Back then they flooded the basin and iced the sides of the hill. With a sled ramp and a toboggan ramp you would end up shooting almost all the way across the basin. Sadly the lawyers ruined it and they took down the ramps and stopped icing the hills. That and globalization and NAFTA totally destroyed the city. 2 steel foundries and almost all the auto plants closed up. Only poor people live in Saginaw today.
