In a lot of countries copyright ends 70 years after the death of the creators of the work, so Steamboat Willie won’t become public domain until after 2041 (70 years after the death of Ub Iwerks). So if you use the characters from Steamboat Willie, you might run into problems if your comic is syndicated internationally.

Disney will do anything to keep their copyrights, apathetic to the fact that the fairytales and myths that they adapt are also within the public domain.

Mickey Mouse is trademarked. Ub Iwerks did not own copyright to the character. The 1928 films with the ‘no gloves’ Mickey (STEAMBOAT WILLIE, PLANE CRAZY, GALLOPING GAUCHO) are in public domain. It’s okay to use a black and white Mickey with pie eyes and no gloves. Many cartoonists have done so, and few have done it well.

Today I found out that Junior Mints makes a caramel version. I am hoping they are like Milk Duds, but soft. Anyone remember Sugar Babies? Oy those could take your teeth out.

The money pictured is paltry compared with Uncle Scrooge’s vault.

Zombie Lawyer looks like he was drawn by Jack Davis, at least somewhat close.

There is something about the current crop of live-action Disney that i can’t stomach. it’s like watching a familiar person come back as a zombie. In fact, most of what they do is so obviously aimed at nothing but money that they’re really unappealing. The cruise line has a commercial out showing flower magically blooming, things lighting up to delighted children, a towel flying in under a hotel pool visitor, and then they pull back and show the mob that’s booked on the cruise. sigh. No thanks.
