the cable going out is a lot more uncommon than it used to be. many years ago i was watching John Wayne’s “the horse soldiers” , it was the finale, the reels had them trapped. there was just one way out and rebel guns were aimed at it.
Wayne ordered the colors unfurled. Sabres out, the bugler silhouetted against the sky blows CHARGE! The horses surge forward, the guns open fire, the first horses hoof hit the bridge and the freaking cable went out and it was two years before I found out how the film ended!
