Guy told me he once decided to raise blood worms and sell for bait. Built a 12×4 concrete bin, loaded in the earth, bought several containers of bw’s, [not cheap] plowed them in, and waited for them to mature. Came back later and found only a few. Thought someone had taken them. He realized what happened when another seller asked him one question. He had built a great bin with solid sides, but had he also floored it?
Worms had simply tunneled their way deep into the dirt and kept going. Talk about money down the tubes.

Reminds me of a line from an old Jack Benny radio show. The hot dog vendor offers Jack Benny a hot dog.
“How can you sell them for five cents?” Benny asks.
“Taste ’em.”
