Here is something my daughter never said to me when I had to throw on clothes to get her someplace early. She was usually happy enough to get the ride and be on time. However, I do appreciate that in the final panel Elizabeth is looking directly at us readers to explain it to us. I love those fourth wall breaks. My daughter never did those either.

At least he’s wearing pants. You should see what my daughter would wear when she dropped me off at the airport at 4:45 am.

Oh for heaven’s sake! Who cares what he looks like? Be grateful for the ride!

Keep making comments like that, Lizzie, and you’ll be walking to the rink.

Why is skating practice at such an ungodly hour?

I’d never agree to signing up for any after school activities that take place at 6 am. I’m staying in my bed.

If I were the parent I’d go back to bed & tell Elizabeth to lose the attitude if she wants to be driven somewhere again.

Elizabeth isn’t a promising single skater.

Some parents drive 3 hrs both ways for their future stars.

How things have changed or I am getting old. Back in the original Feb, 1995, John’s Fruit of the Looms underwear were colored white. Nowadays with gender confusion his underwear is colored pink! In my time in the 1980s, as a man, I wouldn’t be caught dead wearing pink colored Fruit of the Looms!

We were blessed that none of our girls were interested in sports. No basketball, no softball, etc. The middle kiddle was a cheerleader until she tried to show us a cartwheel at home and smacked her foot on the kitchen table.

    Don’t ask.

I did a dance presentation with several other classmates for spirit week one year in high school, and WAY early in the morning was the only time we could practice in the time leading up, because everyone had different activities after school. I’m certain my dad still would have driven me in on those early mornings even if I’d had my license because of the darkness outside.

I agree with Elizabeth John, You need some curlers in your hair to make the early morning drop off look just right.

As someone else said, at my house that remark would have earned her a respite from practice for that day. I would have told her exactly what she did wrong and gone back to bed.

I just love how everyone always gets so bent out of shape at the goings on in this strip. I guess it’s because the characters are drawn as normal-ish people rather than Ziggy or Monty-like or cartoon animals or whatever, so they somehow take it seriously. Boggles the mind.
